between Media and Trade Personnel
at Rajshahi
Economic
Development Impossible Without Political Commitment
Rajshahi,
November 29:
Having huge potential in Rajshahi, no agricultural industry has been
established here due to the lack of political commitment.
Business and media people said it while speaking in the Dialogue on Local
Economic Development and Trade Issues in a local community centre in
Rajshahi today. Speakers also said, Rajshahi region is well known as
agro-tank, but no initiative has yet been taken to establish agricultural
industry and agro-based EPZ in this area. Even many industries have been
sick due to the dearth of patronization and cooperation. For the same
reason, no new industry is being established and no trade and business is
expanding in this area, they added.
Speakers
also said, there is huge demand of our domestic vegetables and raw materials
in the market of different countries including European ones, but due to
having no initiative, these resources cannot enter into the world market.
Speakers strongly demanded to the Government to ensure access of these local
raw materials to the world market and to establish agro-based industries in
this area.
With the support of European Union, mass communication oriented development
organization CCD and Economic Journalists Network (EJ Net) Rajshahi jointly
organized this dialogue. Fellow of EJ Net-Rajshahi and Editor of the Daily
Natun Provat Sarder Abdur Rahman, presented in-depth report on Problems and
Potential of Economic and Trade Activities in Rajshahi. Dean of Business
Studies Faculty of Rajshahi University Prof M Omar Ali, President of
Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Lutfor Rahman, Deputy General
Manager (Research) of Rajshahi Krishi Unnyan Bank (RAKUB) A T M Mostofa
Kamal, Editor of the Daily Sonaly Sangbad Md Liakat Ali, Faculty Member of
RAKUB Training Institute A B Siddiquee and Senior AVP of City Bank Ltd A H M
Rezaul Hoaque attended the dialogue as panel discussant.
The dialogue presided over by Convenor of EJ Net-Rajshahi and Executive
Editor of the Daily Sonali Sangbad Md Molazzem Hossain, was moderated by
Assistant Professor of Marketing Department of RU Shah Azom Shantonu.
Assistant Professor of Mass Communication Dept of RU Moshihur Rahman
addressed the dialogue as critic. Joint Convenor of EJ Net-Rajshahi S M
Shaju and Project Coordinator of CCD A H M Abdul Hai presented welcome
address in the dialogue. About one hundred journalists of local and national
newspapers and news agencies and business leaders actively took part in the
dialogue.
Preservation
of Mango and Litchi in Northern Area Demanded
Rajshahi,

Speakers demanded establishment of cold storage for preservation of valuable
crops of the country mango and litchi in the northern region. If necessary
they would initiate strong movement to fulfill their demand.
Business
and media people said it while speaking in the Dialogue on Local Economic
Development and Trade Issues in Dinajpur Press Club today. Speakers also
said, Dinajpur is well known as one of the agro-tanks in the country. Here
grows mango, litchi, wheat, paddy, maize, potato etc. at large in this
district. But due to the dearth of technical support, the entrepreneurs
could not set up agro-based industries here. They also said, the market of
rice, mango and litchi of Dinajpur is worldwide. But the local traders could
not reach the world market due to having no enough cold storage and
preservation system here.
With

of Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries Md Mosaddek Hoasin, Accounts
Officer of BSCIC, Dinajpur Md Akbar Ali, Principal Officer of Sonali Bank Md
Abdul Kuddus, Editor of the Daily Uttar Bangla Matiur Rahman, Director of
CCD G M Mourtoza and Regional Coordinator of CCD and District correspondent
of Channel I Shah Alam Shahi took part in the dialogue as panel discussant.
Senior Faculty Member of RAKUB Training Institute A B Siddiquee moderated
the dialogue while Convener of EJ Net-Dinajpur Nurul Huda Dulal was in the
chair. About one hundred journalists of local and national newspapers and
news agencies and business leaders actively took part in the dialogue.
